Bumpass Hell
This is a very unique area that has a boardwalk trail that allows visitors to
explore its bubbling mud pots, and other geothermal activity. The area was named by
the site's discoverer when he broke through the crust around a hot spring--causing him to
loose his leg. A short hike (three-mile round trip) is required to reach the site.
Devestated Area
The destruction from the 1915 eruption of Mount Lassen is still visible in this
area.
Lake Helen
Located near Bumpass Hell's parking lot, this is a beautiful glacial lake.
Lassen Peak Trail
This is a popular hiking trail that climbs some 2000' to a spectacular panoramic
view of the park. Be prepared! The 2.5 mile hike is difficult and will take about 4
hours to complete the round trip.
Manazanita Lake
This lake is popular for swimming, fishing, and canoeing.
Nobles Emigrant Trail
Part of a 1850s pioneer trail, the Nobles Trail begins at Rabbithole Creek in
Nevada's Black Rock Desert and concludes at Old Shasta in Northern California. Part
of the trail is located within the park and one of it's features is Hot Rock--a large
granite boulder that was carried down by the 1915 mudflow.
Reflection Lake
The lake is said to provide a perfect reflection of Lassen Peak
Sulphur Works
This is the park's most accessible geothermal area. After walking down a short
trail, you can view mud pots, hotsprings, and fumaroles.

Chimneys
Even if you aren't terribly interested in geology, the spatter cone is definitely
worth seeing. It was created by globs of molten lava piling on top of each other.
Hidden Valley
A trail meanders down the valley wall and around the valley floor. Lots of
vegetation and wildlife to hear and see.
Mammoth Crater
Here you can view the enormous size of the 30,000 year-old lava crater that created
most of the lava tube in the monument.
Petroglyph Point
You will step into the past when you view the early cliff wall carvings.
Schonchin Butte
Lookout
The lookout was built in 1939-1941 by Civilian Conservation Corp. Listed on
the national register of historic buildings, it still serves many functions and will
probably be staffed well into the next century.
