Getting Listed on Explorer1.com

Our mission is simple and focused — promote travel and recreation in California, Nevada, and Oregon.  We always stay true to this mission and strive to build a directory that is well organized, easy to use, intuitive, and extremely relevant for our valued readers.

As a result, Explorer1.com is becoming the definitive online travel resource for hundreds of thousands of readers each year.  This highly targeted audience has enormous advertising potential for any business that caters to the sports, leisure, and travel industries!

Ready to "Get Listed" on Explorer1.com? We have two ways that your organization can be listed on Explorer1.com for free sort of.   Just agree to the conditions for a Basic Text Listing and/or an Submit an Article and you are on your way!

1)  Basic Text Listing Free of charge

Similar to a phonebook white page listing, we can add your business name, address, phone number and Web address to the appropriate category on Explorer1.com.   Please note that Basic Text Listings must meet the following conditions:

a) All listings must have a official business name.  The business names must adhere to local city and county regulations.

b) All listings must have a street address.  No PO Boxes or virtual address will be accepted. 

c) All listings must have a unique Web site and Web address (URL) .  The Web site must be free of  technical problems such as broken links, extremely long download times, viruses, etc.  And it must adhere to all applicable copyright laws.  (Don't have a Web site?  We can create an Explorer1.com online brochure for you starting at $150 per page or you can purchase one of our advertisements.)

d)  All business receiving a free listing must link back to Explorer1.com from their Web site.  Most businesses generally include us on their favorite links page or link to a specific page on the site.

e)  The business must be an appropriate fit for Explorer1.com.  At our sole discretion, we will determine if a business meets our mission and does not conflict or compete with our partners or Explorer1.com.  We reserve the right to refuse service.

Basic Text Listings are NOT available to business offering any type lodging! Hotels, motels, vacation rental, B&Bs, etc. will only be added to Explorer1.com if they are listed with our reservation partner Travelnow.com (an Expedia family member) or purchase one of the advertising options.

2)  Submit a Story, Review or Opinion Piece and Get a Listing and Two Free Links!

Do you have some expert advise or insight that you would like to share with Explorer1.com readers?  Your article can greatly benefit both of us!  For Explorer1.com, we get to add content from an area expert.  For you, you establish credibility with our readers, and the two "quality" inbound links that you receive from Explorer1.com to your Web site can help boost your rankings with Google and other search engines.  This is truly a win-win situation!  (For more information about "linking" and search engine optimization, ask you Web designer or click here.)

To begin the process, please email us with a topic suggestion that you would like to submit to us.  If we like it, and we decide to publish it on our site, we'll add a your byline to your article with a link to your Web site.  We'll also give you a Basic Text Listing with a link to your Web. 

Please note that along with adhering to the conditions of a Basic Text Listing, your story, review or opinion piece should meet the following criteria:

a) Your topic will be of interest to our readers.  For example, if you own a surf shop, you may want to write something on the area's surfing hot spots or surfing etiquette.  A restaurant owner may wish to share a signature receipt or discuss wine parings.  A sports rental store may want to talk about great areas to bike, hike or kayak.

b) Your article should be a REAL story and should NOT be a sales pitch or an obvious self-promotion.

c) The article should be well written and not too long.  Generally, one to two pages is great for the web.  You can also include a photo or two.

d) You must have the legal rights to the content, i.e., the article must adhere to all applicable copyright laws. 

e) You must allow us to use your article – free of charge – for as long as we deem appropriate without limitation.  You give us complete and exclusive rights to the article.

f) You must allow Explorer1.com to serve any advertisement that we deem appropriate with your article as long as they do not directly compete with your product or service.  No generated advertising revenue will be shared with you.

g) If necessary, you agree to allow us to edit your article for length, quality and content.
